The Working Conditions: Public Lecture

September 27, 2017

Minna Henriksson will speak about her artistic practice focusing on artist books as form of artwork. The most recent of these is ‘Works on Paper’ which tells aspects about the paper industry in Finland through 40 linocut prints.

In his talk curator Jussi Koitela speaks about curatorial processes behind his recent projects. Intra-Structures – Monster of the Seven Lakes was an exhibitionary entanglement with art works by Sabrina Chou, Caroline Doolin, The Otolith Group and Laura Põld, Moomin books by Tove Jansson and various intra-structural narratives. It was part of larger Entangling Matter and Meaning organised at Treignac Projet by artists Jaana Laakkonen and Sam Basu and curator Jussi Koitela. The project considered contemporary artistic, curatorial and institutional practices through recent queer and feminist-posthuman critical thinking.

Minna Henriksson (b. 1976, Oulu) is a visual artist based in Helsinki. She focuses on research-based works and includes disparate range of tools including text, drawing, linocut and photography. Henriksson is a member of the group Helsingin Nuorisofestivaali 1962 – Muistityöryhmä, which produced radio play ‘Festival 62’ that examines mechanisms of silencing.

Jussi Koitela (b.1981) is a curator currently moving between different projects in France, Norway and Finland. He has since 2012 been working on and with artist’s responses to economical structures and discourses in the context of Skills of Economy curatorial research. Koitela is interested in developing curatorial, institutional and discursive practices that merge together different areas of an artistic practice, a research and politics in pervasive forms.
